Professor Stephen Billett
Professor of Adult and Vocational Education
Griffith University

Professor Stephen Billett worked as a vocational educator, administrator, teacher educator, professional development practitioner and policy developer before teaching and researching at Griffith University. He is Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Vocations and Learning: Studies in Vocational and Professional Education (Springer). His books include Learning through Work: Strategies for Effective Practice (Allen and Unwin 2001); Work, Change and Workers (Springer 2006).
As a visiting research fellow at IAL in 2009, Professor Billett has been working on the “Mature Aged Workers Study” project.
Professor Andrew Brown
Professor of Education and Dean of the Doctoral School
Institute of Education, University of London

Professor Andrew Brown’s research interests include the process of research capacity building, inter-professional practice, and learning and transformation of practice through workplace-based research. He has been an international consultant on projects in Bangladesh, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya and South Africa. Recent publications include Doing Research/Reading Research: Re-interrogating Education (with Paul Dowling, 2010, Routledge) and Working with Qualitative Data (with Will Gibson, 2009, Sage).
In 2009 he was visiting fellow at the Institute for Adult Learning, where he worked on the development of the IAL research strategy.
Professor Roger Harris
Professor in Adult and Vocational Education
University of South Australia

Roger Harris is a Professor in the School of Education and Director of the Centre for Research in Education, Equity and Work (CREEW) at the University of South Australia. Professor Roger Harris has had extensive experience in VET teacher education and in VET research focusing on national training reform. His professional activities include research, research supervision, international journal reviewing, membership of the SA Training and Skills Commission and Academic Board work for a private Registered Training Organisation. He has been an executive member and Vice-President of the Australian VET Research Association, and director of the national research consortium, ‘Supporting VET providers in building capability for the future’.
He is currently a national editor for the Australian Journal of Adult Learning, a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators, and a Visiting Research Fellow at IAL for three months.
Mr Brian Knight
Principal Research Consultant
National Centre for Vocational Education Research, Australia

Mr Brian Knight has an extensive background in research, statistical analysis, data collection and reporting, in both the vocational education and training (VET) and secondary education sectors, in Australia and overseas. He is also a specialist in educational assessment.
As a visiting research fellow at IAL in 2009, Mr Knight has been driving the “PCP Programme” project.
Mr Martyn Sloman
Visiting Research Fellow
Kingston University

Between 2001 and 2008, Mr. Martyn Sloman was adviser of learning, training and development at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) where he produced groundbreaking work on the shift from training to learning. Martyn is a Visiting Professor at Kingston Business School, Kingston University and a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Management and Organizational Psychology Birkbeck College, University of London.
As a visiting research fellow at IAL in 2009, Mr Sloman has been working on the “Delivering Business Value Through Skills” project.
Dr Johnny Sung
Senior Research Fellow
Centre for Labour Market Studies, University of Leicester

Dr Johnny Sung's research areas include 'sectoral approaches to national skills development'; ‘skills and performance in organisations' and 'high performance work practices (HPWPs)'. Currently, he is working on two books: "Vocational Education and Training for Skills and Performance: the Fundamental Principles of a Contemporary Workforce Development System" (Edward Elgar) and (with Prof. D. Ashton) "Competing Through Skills" (Sage).
As a visiting research fellow at IAL in 2009, Dr Sung has been working on the “Skills Analysis & Training Impact” project.
Dr Gary Willmott
Visiting Research Fellow

He has held the appointments of Assistant Director-General of the NSW TAFE Commission as well as Deputy Chief Executive of WDA, and was a key figure in the development of the Singapore WSQ System.
