The Institute heads the league table for education research in the latest official audit of universities in the United Kingdom. According to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) results, the IOE also tops the league tables in qualitative and quantitative research in education. Across all subjects, the IOE’s performance places it in the top 10 universities in the UK. The IOE conducts over one-third of all education research in the UK, and over 40% of research funded by the research councils in the field.
