The Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership (MBX) is a novel, transdisciplinary-focused, cutting-edge, and innovative post-graduate programme that was created with focus on cross-boundary change, leadership, learning, and innovation. 

It is based on the understanding of the dynamic and rapidly evolving external environment where the constant and disruptive shifts in the global environment and the changing nature of work demands an equally rapid and in-depth up-skilling to handle such a context.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university

  • Have at least 2 years of working experience

Skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills that meets the English Language Proficiency Requirements (ELPR)* if your undergraduate degree is not awarded by an English-medium university, or your undergraduate degree is awarded by an English-medium university but the language of instruction was not English

* at least an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5, or a TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 85 (internet-based), or a PTE Academic score of 58, or C1 Advanced score of 180 [score must be obtained within the last 2 years at point of application].

  • For each module, you must achieve at least 75% attendance, and pass assessments.
  • For companies with a contract with IAL, full payment of the course fees shall be made to IAL within the 30 days credit term from the date of invoice.

Mandatory e-Attendance via Singpass App from 1 October 2023

    • Singaporean Citizens/Permanent Residents are required to set up your Singpass account and download the Singpass App prior to course commencement.
    • Learners will have to submit a reschedule request, with an applicable fee, if they are unable to do so.
    • Please be present in class (physical and online) 15 minutes before the scheduled lesson time on the actual day and have the following ready:
      1. Smart device (e.g., smartphone or iPad) with a functioning camera, 
      2. Singpass mobile app installed on the smart device, 
      3. Login credentials for the Singpass App. 

Scholarship

The Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership Award

The Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership Award aims to support applicants who have demonstrated capability in leadership and adult learning roles and who possess an excellent track record of service in the training and adult education (TAE) sector with the opportunity to pursue a postgraduate degree qualification.

Award application period:
January Semester: 1 August to 15 September
July Semester: 1 February to 15 March

To apply for the award, please submit your application online by the stipulated closing date. If shortlisted, you are required to attend a panel interview. Details will be sent to shortlisted candidates only.

For new students, you must submit your MBX admission e-application first before submitting your application for the award.

Previously unsuccessful candidates need not re-apply. Candidates will be notified of the application outcome via email by end November for the January semester, and by end June for the July semester.

The decision of the awarding panel on the selection of award recipients is final and binding and no reasons will be given for the non-selection of unsuccessful candidates. No appeals will be entertained.

The tenure of the Award is two years, which is the minimum period required to complete the MBX programme. The Award recipient must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.8 for the continuation of the Award. SUSS & IAL reserve the right to withdraw or suspend the Award at any time if the recipient's conduct or academic performance has not been satisfactory.

The Award covers the full programme fees, after SkillsFuture Funding subsidy and SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy for Singapore Citizens who are 40 years old or above (if applicable). 

Applicants must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident with deep experience in learning and leadership roles in TAE. Employees of SkillsFuture Singapore, the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) and the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) are not eligible for the award.

The Award is open only to new applicants to the Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership (MBX) programme. To qualify for the Award, applicants must be accepted for admission to the MBX programme and they must not concurrently be the recipient of any other scholarship or award.

Award recipients must serve as an Adult Education (AE) Mentor with the IAL for a minimum period of two years upon graduation from the MBX programme.
