The Centre for Work and Learning (CWL) brought together well-known international researchers in the field of learning development for a week-long Expert Roundtable in Singapore from 20 to 24 March 2017. Themed “Flipping the lens from teaching to learning: the learners’ journey towards mastery”, the event explored issues involved in the fields of learners’ learning development in different learning spaces, forged cross disciplinary research collaboration. It also provided a platform to exchange ideas in developing CWL’s research agenda and achieving the objectives of SkillsFuture Singapore Research Fund.
Prof Emerita Anne Edwards, Department of Education, Fellow of St Hilda’s College, Oxford University, United Kingdom
Prof Emerita Anne Edwards has written extensively on workplace learning, drawing on cultural-historical approaches to analysing learning in institutional practices. Her most recent contributions to the field include the development of the ideas of relational expertise, relational agency and common knowledge in order to understand how people collaborate in and across practice boundaries.
Prof Roger Säljö, Professor of Educational Psychology, University of Gothenburg, Sweden
Prof Roger Säljö specialises in research on learning, interaction and human development in a sociocultural perspective. Much of this work is related to issues of how people learn to use cultural tools and how we acquire competences and skills that are foundational to learning in a socially and technologically complex society.
Prof Henning Salling Olesen, Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, Denmark
Prof Henning Salling Olesen is affiliated with the doctoral program Learning, Work and Social Innovation at the Department of People and Technology. His research areas are adult learning with relation to the societal development of work, and the subjective significance of work.
Assoc Prof Steve Wheeler, Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Plymouth University
Assoc Prof Steve Wheeler is the Associate Professor of Learning Technologies at the Plymouth Institute of Education where he chairs the Learning Futures group and leads the Computing education team. He researches into technology supported learning and distance education, with particular emphasis on the pedagogy underlying the use of social media and Web 2.0 technologies, and also has research interests in mobile learning and cyberculture.
Dr Christine Owen, University of Tasmania, Australia
Dr Christine Owen’s career history spans engagement in academia and industry to help people and organisations engaged in safety critical work to inquire into, learn from and, if needed, change their work practices. Her research interest includes using theories of learning to understand work practices and development in work organisations.
Dr Rebekah Lim, Director of Teaching and Learning Centre, Singapore University of Social Sciences
Dr Rebekah Lim’s research interests focuses on learning design and professional development for technology-enabled practice. She has served as consultant for both local and international bodies on technology-enabled learning.
Dr Jennifer Tan, Assistant Dean (Knowledge Mobilisation) and Senior Research Scientist, Office of Education Research , National Institute of Education, Singapore
Dr Jennifer Tan is Assistant Dean (Knowledge Mobilisation) and Senior Research Scientist at the Office of Education Research in the National Institute of Education, Singapore. She specializes in technology-mediated pedagogical innovations aimed at formatively assessing and fostering 21st century skills and dispositions in learners, in particular, collaborative creativity, criticality and problem-solving.
