What is this programme about?

 

The growing interest in workplace learning is perhaps due to its potential to contribute to performance, possibly to improved productivity and of course it means less time off the job for formal training. However, despite this interest and the increasing awareness of the benefits of making the most of learning and building on learning that happens naturally in the workplace, many grapple with how to do and develop workplace learning.

In this foundational course, explore learning about, through and at work.  What is ‘workplace learning’, why ‘workplace learning’ and how ‘workplace learning’ happens in workplaces will be visited during the e-learning and face-to-face segment.  To have an authentic appreciation of the possibilities in using a workplace learning intervention, you will have an opportunity to address a performance issue at work using this approach.

In this blended programme, you will have opportunities to reflect on personal experiences of learning at work and connecting it with theories for deeper learning such as workplace affordances, constraints and limitations for learning; types of workplace learning methods through e-learning and classroom session.

To further explore how workplace learning can be considered to address a work performance issue, you have the opportunity to design a workplace learning approach through case study, hands-on practice through collaborative learning, one-on-one coaching and an assessment of learning at the end.

This programme is for professionals in:

  • Adult Education: comprises job functions in the activities of learning design, curriculum development, learning facilitation, assessment of learning competence, learning technology integration and providing consultancy and advisory services to drive business performance.
  • Learning Management: comprises job functions in the management and support of learning programmes, systems and technology management and implementation, quality assurance of learning programmes and driving business development.

  • Identify the barriers and enhancers that impact workplace learning
  • Select an appropriate workplace learning method to encourage learning at work
  • Design a workplace learning approach to address performance issue at the workplace

Adjunct Adult Educator | Institute for Adult Learning

Ms Clare Poon is a freelance Adult Educator with the Institute for Adult Learning.  In her fifteen years of experience in the retail, healthcare and training industry, her work involves frontline retailing; deliver customer service programme locally and overseas; design and develop curriculum; conduct stand-up training; audit training programme; provide consultancy; facilitate workplace learning project; and provide career development guidance.  Clare enjoys meeting people and creating meaningful opportunities to enable learning.  Progressing from projects that revolve around the Workforce Skills Qualification, her recent focus is skewed toward workplace learning and career development facilitation.  

Millie Lee (Ms)

Adjunct Adult Educator | Institute for Adult Learning

Ms Millie Lee is a freelance consultant, researcher and adult educator specialised in workplace learning. She has assisted enterprises with design and implementation of various workplace learning interventions. She has also coached and supervised new workplace learning specialists in their certification journey, and has been involved in IAL’s research projects on topics related to workplace learning and assessment. In the past she was a regional L&D Manager at a global consumer electronics company. Before that, she was Learning Consultant designing and rolling out blended learning solutions.
