What is this programme about?

Education has been severely disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions which have become necessary during this crisis. There is an increased move away from traditional, face-to-face training and educational programmes, to blended or even fully digital courses, which allow businesses to ensure the continued availability of adult education and training. In a globalised and changing landscape, it is essential for education to become more diverse and flexible while maintaining collaborative and interactive learning environments.

Learn how to harness Web 2.0 technology and tools as a means of continuing your educational practice and respond to the needs of your learners. This training programme introduces you to a wide range of online platforms and tools, such as Padlet, which can be used to enhance training delivery with the inclusion of collaborative learning on a scale previously unknown. Padlet is a free-to-use, device-neutral platform designed specifically to facilitate collaboration in learning environments. Accessible on any device with internet access, and requiring no special software or downloads, Padlet is a versatile environment in which students can post comments or responses on a virtual bulletin board — or wall — which can then be projected, exported as a variety of file formats, or embedded in websites or VLEs.

This one-day workshop will introduce you to the key functions of Padlet, allowing you to obtain hands-on experience in an online learning scenario. In addition to familiarisation with this platform, participants will also explore key concepts of collaborative learning, as well as other collaborative tools such as Google Docs, Mentimeter, and Nearpod. You will learn about and experience the concepts of collaborative learning from both a theoretical and practical perspective. Through a combination of individual and group work, you will become comfortable and familiar with these tools, coming to understand how they can enhance your current training and teaching practices. Whether you are a freelance trainer, part of a small team, or involved with large-scale training organisations, there are numerous opportunities to add these cost-effective and easy-to-use tools to your toolbox and enrich the experience of your learners.

“Current advancements in technology have opened up new opportunities in the areas of pedagogy to achieve self-directed, interactive, collaborative and team-based learning beyond the classroom, anytime and anywhere.” – Associate Professor Muhammad Faisal bin Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education, 16 November 2015.
