What is this programme about?

Assessment is a key feature in training and adult education. Rapid technological developments in recent years have opened many doors for educators, and assessment can now be delivered across a number of platforms and in a number of different ways. Despite these transformations, the core principles of assessment — monitoring progress, providing feedback, and measuring understanding and competencies — remain the same, and it is more important than ever that educators are literate in digital approaches to pedagogy and aware of the platforms available to them.

Learn how to design and deliver effective and innovative assessment activities through the use of digital platforms such as Quizizz, Quizlet, Google Forms, Plickers, Mentimeter, and Kahoot!. By exploring ideas about assessment in a digital age, you will develop a greater understanding and appreciation of a technology-enabled approach to assessment and feedback delivery. Building on this knowledge, you will then be equipped to address the associated challenges with this approach, by knowing how to select the right option from a wide range of tools and platforms.

In this one-day interactive workshop, you will explore a number of digital platforms which can be used for assessment and feedback in a teaching and learning context. Through a mix of individual and group work, discussions, and activities which put you in the place of the learner, you will gain first-hand experience of the practical application of the various digital assessment offerings. Building on this knowledge in a progressive manner, and enriching your theoretical knowledge with practical experience, you will gain insights into new ways of assessing psycho-motor related skills through technology-enabled assessments. This knowledge will enable you to transform and enhance the assessment experience of your own learners.

“Our universities are also making curriculum changes to ensure that our students are well-versed in the latest lingua franca of international commerce. For a long time this has been English. But I think the new-age lingua franca is digital literacy.” – Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills), 26 March 2018.
