Topic: Online InnovBITE on Nearpod

Speaker: Mr Thum Cheng Cheong, who is ACTA-trained and is an associate law lecturer with SIM Global Education (SIMGE), Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and Singapore Accountancy Academy Global Education (SAA-GE). Mr Thum has used Nearpod in his classes and received positive feedback from his students.

Synopsis: In the 2-hour session, Mr Thum shared some tips on using Nearpod, a freemium platform that can be used by educators to create presentations containing quizzes, polls, videos, images, etc, for interactive learning. The online InnovBite was conducted via Zoom, a video and audio conferencing software that allows participants to meet virtually and synchronously, even when facilitator and participants are located in different physical locations. Topic: Cheap, Easy and Effective Tools

Sharing Content: Technology permeates every aspect of our lives today. Specific to learning, technology touts improvement in learner engagement, knowledge retention, collaboration and life-long learning skills. However, the use of technology is not without its woes. Concerns about cost and technical complexity are seen as a strong deterrence in the adoption of teaching and learning. The session addressed the above issues and touched on how these barriers could be overcome to use technology effectively and explore how cheap, easy and effective tools can help with improving training objectives. The session also explored the use of technology in enhancing feedback. Tools such as Thinglink, Padlet and Flipgrid were used during the session.

Topic: How to use videos to grow your influence

Sharing Content: According to Hubspot, 72% of people prefer to use videos to learn about a product or service and 81% of businesses are already on board on using video as a marketing tool. If this medium is not adopted as a tool for the business, then it is high time to start. The session addressed the three elements (Usefulness, Tell a Story and Personable) which help to build up a business’ influence and also showed a four-step process video creation for LinkedIn and Facebook. Aside to this, the session also shared on how the algorithm of the major social media platforms works.
