Programme Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Designing Learning and Innovation (GCDLI) is a 15-credit unit, 16-week programme comprising three courses focusing on learning and developing one’s own practice within the workplace, analysing organisations as part of complex ecosystems, and examining the relationship between organisational capability development and the ecosystems in which the organisation functions.


Programme Highlights

Graduates of the GCDLI will be well-acquainted with contemporary research on workplace learning and supported in uncovering what it means to own and develop their practice. They will create strategies to support learning and innovation relevant to their own settings. They will see their understanding of learning extended beyond the self, and to the organisational level and between organisations, where they will study organisations vis-a-vis their ecosystems and appreciate how inter-institutional relations in the ecosystem support organisational development internally and externally. 

The Graduate Certificate is an elective certificate in the Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership (MBX) programme, and stackable towards that qualification. 

The Graduate Certificate is a core certificate in the Learning, Innovation and Enterprise Leadership track of the Master programme.

Programme Structure

The programme will be conducted within a semester (4 months).

The Graduate Certificate consists of 3 courses.

Candidature of the Programme

The minimum candidature is 6 months and the maximum is 24 months.

Learners will examine and trial different workplace learning pedagogies. Through this process, learners will explore what it means to ‘own’ and develop their practice; that is to be aware of systemic and cultural influences on their own and others’ assumptions. They will be introduced to a practice theoretical approach that enables analysis of cultural and historical norms that reproduce and/or create spaces of innovation, learning and change. By overlaying the ecosystem approach, learners will be able to bring a powerful lens to analysing how to support learning, innovation and change.

Organisations operate within complex ecosystems. Learners will be challenged to make meaning of differing theoretical perspectives on contemporary theories of organisation and organisational development, and their ideas about learning, innovation, and change. This meaning making process will contribute to learners’ ability to position and support change. Using Knowledge Forum software and physical face-to-face sessions, they will learn to lead discussions that improve on ideas and understandings and move the discussion forward to deepen and co-construct knowledge of this field. Using their own or a selected organisation as the subject, they will move between theory and practice to grow their stance (philosophical beliefs) about organisational change in complex, dynamically changing environments.

In this course, learners will examine a range of examples of development and growth in different organisations. In the process they will uncover assumptions about learners, learning, innovation, and change. The language of ‘skill’, ‘capability’ and ‘development’ and its implications for approaches to talent development will be an important focus. They will examine cases where organisations use a war of talent and a wealth of talent approach and their outcomes. This will provide an overarching frame for conceiving of development in and of the organisation. Such framing also impacts on relations between educational institutions/training providers and enterprises. Supporting development in and of an organisation, requires understanding of what it means to have meaningful relations between institutions in the ecosystem that can support an organisation’s capability development and strategic directions.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university

  • Have at least 2 years of working experience

  • Applicants will be required to provide a full CV detailing their work experience.

  • Applicants are also required to submit a personal statement of interest and reasons for choosing this programme in Word Document format (1 Page)

Skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills that meets the English Language Proficiency Requirements (ELPR)* if your undergraduate degree is not awarded by an English-medium university, or your undergraduate degree is awarded by an English-medium university but the language of instruction was not English

* at least an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5, or a TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 85 (internet-based), or a PTE Academic score of 58, or C1 Advanced score of 180 [score must be obtained within the last 2 years at point of application].

Graduation Requirement

A minimum CGPA of 2.5 (out of 5.0) shall be required to successfully complete the GC.

  • For each module, you must achieve at least 75% attendance, and pass assessments.
  • For companies with a contract with IAL, full payment of the course fees shall be made to IAL within the 30 days credit term from the date of invoice.

Mandatory e-Attendance via Singpass App from 1 October 2023

  • Singaporean Citizens/Permanent Residents are required to set up your Singpass account and download the Singpass App prior to course commencement.
  • Learners will have to submit a reschedule request, with an applicable fee, if they are unable to do so.
  • Please be present in class (physical and online) 15 minutes before the scheduled lesson time on the actual day and have the following ready:
    1. Smart device (e.g., smartphone or iPad) with a functioning camera.
    2. Singpass mobile app installed on the smart device.
    3. Login credentials for the Singpass App.
