Established in 2008, the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) was set up to strengthen Singapore's adult education ecosystem by developing the capabilities of adult educators and advancing research in adult learning. Since 2019, IAL has operated as an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences. Today, IAL serves as the National Centre of Excellence for Adult Learning, partnering with policymakers, enterprises and adult education professionals to strengthen the Training and Adult Education (TAE) sector.
Through research that informs TAE policies, the promotion of skills-first practices and initiatives that build sector capabilities, IAL supports lifelong learning and workforce development. Together with its efforts to drive innovation in learning technology and pedagogy, IAL enhances adult learning experiences and contributes to Singapore's workforce transformation.
