At a Glance

Jay Gee Group (Jay Gee), a branded lifestyle company, seeks to redesign its onboarding programme for new hires by adopting and embarking on new learning technologies, as well as reducing classroom training days by 50%. The enterprise also seeks to advocate a learning culture by empowering staff to embrace self-directed learning.

In support of this objective, Jay Gee embarked on a Learning Enterprise Alliance (LEA) project under the NACE@IAL initiative in 2019.

Achievements

The project team together with support from Management and inputs from IAL's Certified Workplace Learning Specialist, achieved the following:

  • Reduction of classroom training days by 50% (from 3 days to 1.5 days) with the adoption of new learning technology.
  • 80% of staff strongly agreed that implementation of learning activities enhance staff learning and provide opportunities for interaction and communication with fellow staff.
  • Empowerment of staff to embrace self-directed learning, to learn and grow at own pace with easy access to learning resources, 24/7.

"As a leading branded lifestyle company, Jay Gee is an organization that highly promotes continuous learning and performance to remain competitive in the retail industry. By joining LEA, we aimed to further enhance our learning and development practices."
- Mr. Danny Tan Executive Director

Challenges

As the leading branded lifestyle company, the enterprise faces learning and performance issues, as it is an issue that plague many others in the retail industry. Moreover, the need to remain competitive by investing in human capital, balancing manpower needs, as well as to empower its staff to be self-directed learners was a challenge in itself for the enterprise to balance.

Interventions

The project team started to redesign the traditional 3-day classroom onboarding programme to a 1.5-day blended learning with the conversion of existing training materials to e-modules using CANVAS Learning Management System.
