Background
For over five decades, Prince's Landscape Pte Ltd (Prince's) has been a cornerstone of Singapore’s green industry. Starting as a humble flower shop, it has blossomed into a leading full-service landscape design and installation company, employing over 700 professionals. But as the landscape industry evolves, so must its workforce. Prince’s Landscape is leading this change, driving productivity, sustainability, and professionalism to new heights.
In 2024, Prince’s Landscape embarked on a transformative workplace learning project, in collaboration with the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore (IAL) Centre for Workplace and Learning Innovation (CWLI). This initiative, part of the National Centre of Excellence for Workplace Learning (NACE@IAL) network, aimed to tackle key workforce challenges and equip employees with the tools to excel in an increasingly competitive industry.
Transforming the workforce through the NACE@IAL consultancy initiative
As Prince’s Landscape expanded, the company saw an opportunity to align employee skills with its evolving business needs. The company identified several key areas with potential for growth and enhancement:
- Aligning employee capabilities with the demands of a growing, dynamic industry
- Cultivating a culture of continuous learning and professional development
- Enhancing communication and teamwork across departments
- Boosting customer service and operational efficiency to maintain their competitive edge
Learning aids that focus on professionalism and self-management is the cornerstone of aligning individual growth with organisational success
Mr Kilon Koh, General Manager
Incorporating learning aids that promote professionalism and self-management in our workplace training is key to aligning individual development with organisational objectives. The learning aids play a pivotal role in shaping the professionalism and self-management of landscape technicians, ensuring their training aligns with organisational goals and fosters continuous improvement.
Ms Nandhini Suresh, Learning & Development Manager
In Prince, we emphasise profiling of our Landscape Technicians. Your learning aids will be helpful to expedite our profiling efforts and give our learning facilitators more confidence to showcase the role models. In the future, these learning aids can be used by all the departments in Prince to achieve professionalism in their respective areas. We appreciate the IAL & NACE team for supporting our company’s staff to reach greater heights.
Mr Ramesh Athi, Learning Quality Manager
The Goal - Developing Learning Aids for Self-management
Prince’s Landscape aimed to enhance the professionalism and growth mindset of their Landscape Technicians and Landscape Workers by implementing effective self-management tools to support their onboarding and ongoing workplace learning.
Opportunities for Improvement
Firstly, there was a need to enhance workforce capability, particularly in aligning employee skills with business demands. The company recognised the importance of fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development to stay competitive. Additionally, improving communication and collaboration across teams was crucial to ensuring that all employees were working towards the same organisational goals. Lastly, identifying areas for improvement in customer service and operational efficiency was necessary to maintain and enhance client satisfaction and business performance.
The Solution - Learning Aids for Self-Management and Professionalism
To address these challenges, Prince’s Landscape collaborated with NACE@IAL to develop tailored learning aids focused on self-management and professionalism. These tools were designed to help Landscape Technicians and Workers develop the skills necessary to thrive, both individually and as part of a larger team.
The initiative involved:
- Training In-House Trainers: Learning & Development department trainers were equipped to deliver this new curriculum, ensuring sustainability within the company.
- Co-Creation of Learning Tools: Stakeholders collaborated to create learning aids that reflect real-world challenges and business objectives.
- Real-World Implementation: These tools were not just theoretical—they were integrated directly into the workplace, providing immediate, practical value.
The Results - Transforming the Workforce
The impact of this initiative was both immediate and far-reaching:
- 500 Employees Impacted: Learning aids for self-management and professionalism were implemented, benefiting a significant portion of the workforce.
- In-House Expertise Built: Trainers within the company were empowered to continue using and refining these learning tools, ensuring long-term sustainability.
- Improved Professionalism and Growth Mindset: The tools helped foster a culture where employees are proactive, responsible, and aligned with the company’s mission of continuous improvement.

Looking ahead, Prince’s Landscape is committed to updating its learning aids annually to ensure they remain relevant and effective. Additionally, the company plans to expand these tools across all departments, embedding a culture of professionalism and self-management throughout the organisation.
