At Singapore Heart Foundation, we deeply value our employees and their professional growth. We believe that investing in our team not only strengthens our organisation but also enhances our ability to make a positive impact in our communities. To further support our commitment, we are excited to introduce our new learning roadmap in collaboration with NACE@IAL. This structured roadmap is designed to provide clarity and direction for our employees, helping them understand their current skills and competencies, as well as identifying areas for growth. The learning roadmap will serve as a guide, outlining the specific training and development opportunities tailored to each employee's needs. This approach ensures that our team members have the resources and support necessary to thrive in their roles and contribute meaningfully to our mission. By implementing this initiative, we aim to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, where every employee feels empowered and equipped to succeed. We look forward to embarking on this journey together and creating new opportunities for our team to excel.

Identifying Areas of Improvement for Performance

To lay a solid foundation for the learning and development initiative, the project team at the Singapore Heart Foundation adopted a systematic approach to identify areas of improvement. This approach was designed to ensure the alignment of employee skills with organisational objectives and to foster continuous professional growth.

To ensure alignment, the project team at the Singapore Heart Foundation employed strategic methodologies:

  • Utilising the Skills Framework, the team evaluated the current skills and competencies of various job roles to ensure they aligned with the organisation's core values and strategic goals.

  • A comprehensive analysis was conducted to pinpoint the specific training requirements essential for employee development. This analysis helped in identifying the areas of improvement between current capabilities and desired competencies.

Integration of Workplace Learning Interventions

To bridge the identified the areas of improvement and foster a culture of continuous professional development, the Singapore Heart Foundation implemented targeted workplace learning interventions. These interventions were designed to support employees in acquiring new skills and enhancing existing competencies.

The key interventions included:

  • Personalised learning roadmaps were developed for employees, providing a clear and structured path for their professional development. These roadmaps were used as references during career conversations and performance appraisals.

  • The learning roadmaps were incorporated into the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring they had a clear understanding of their development opportunities from the start.

  • Relevant training programmes were identified and implemented based on the specific needs of each job role. These programmes aim to equip employees with the skills necessary to excel in their positions.

  • Continuous support and guidance were provided to employees to help them navigate their learning roadmaps and achieve their professional goals.

  • Regular feedback was gathered from employees and management to assess the effectiveness of the interventions and make necessary adjustments.

Scaling up on the workplace learning imperative

At the end of the project, Singapore Heart Foundation was able to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Employees acquired new skills and improved existing ones through structured learning roadmaps and targeted training programmes, leading to increased job performance and efficiency.
  2. The integration of learning roadmaps into the onboarding process provided new employees with a clear understanding of their development opportunities, accelerating their adjustment and productivity.
  3. The approach to career development and continuous support fostered a culture of learning, resulting in higher employee satisfaction and engagement

The Singapore Heart Foundation has embarked on a transformative journey in collaboration with NACE@IAL to implement a project to enhance employee skills and professional development. By conducting a skills and competency assessment and training needs analysis, the team identified key performance gaps. To address these gaps, they introduced structured learning roadmaps, integrated training programmes, and improved onboarding processes. These targeted interventions resulted in enhanced employee competencies, accelerated adjustment and productivity for new employees, and higher employee engagement, fostering a culture of continuous learning and aligning development with organisational goals.

What’s next for Singapore Heart Foundation?

The Singapore Heart Foundation plans to build on the project's success by continuously updating and refining learning roadmaps, expanding training programmes to include advanced skills and emerging technologies, and enhancing career development support through ongoing coaching and mentoring. Additionally, the company will implement robust mechanisms to measure the impact of these interventions and gather employee feedback, ensuring the initiatives remain effective and relevant. These steps will further empower employees, drive organisational success, and reinforce their commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning.
