What Is This Session About?

This one-day immersive course equips adult educators and training professionals with Handshaw’s six-stage instructional design model to align learning with performance improvement. Through practical activities and real-world cases, participants learn to design learning solutions that address workplace problems and drive measurable outcomes. Generative AI tools will be introduced as optional aids for faster ideation and prototyping. By day’s end, participants will create an instructional prototype aligned to business needs, learner gaps, and performance metrics.


What Does The Session Cover?

Knowledge-based learning objectives: what participants will know at the end of the workshop:

1. Describe the six stages of Handshaw’s Instructional Design Model.
2. Explain how each stage contributes to building training that improves performance.

Skills-based learning objectives: what participants will be able to do at the end of the workshop:

1. Apply Handshaw’s model to analyse a performance gap.
2. Create an aligned instructional prototype, using AI tools to support design and development tasks.


^ Assessment: Formative Assessment(s) (Assignments/Presentations/Practical Performances)

^ Completion: Upon 100% attendance and meeting Assessment requirement, learners will receive a Certificate of Participation from IAL (& other partners where applicable)

Course Funding and Policies

Payment

Please proceed to make payment via eNets/credit card (VISA or MasterCard) at the end of the registration process. Kindly note that the system will automatically cancel the registration if full payment has not been successfully processed by 11.59pm (Singapore Time) on the same day of the registration. You will have to reapply for the course, subject to availability of vacancy at the point of your re-registration.

Additional Funding Available, If Applicable

Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset the selected programmes' fees for self-sponsored registrations only.


Please note the submission period for your SFC claim via MySkillsFuture needs to be within 60 days before the course start date (date inclusive). If your course start date is more than 60 days from the date of SFC application, the SSG-SFC portal would reject your application. In this case, you would need to pay the full course fees at the end of your course application.


Rescheduling

Request for rescheduling it must be submitted to IAL 2 weeks before the commencement of programme. Reschedule requests that come mid-way through training has to be supported by valid reasons; substantiated by references as evidence; such as a doctor's note; or a hospitalization chit.


Please submit your request to reschedule your course at MyIAL. A non-refundable administrative fee of S$54.50 w/GST ($50) applies for the request and the next available slot will be offered

Withdrawal

Request for withdrawal from a programme is subjected to review by IAL and the decision is final. IAL reserves the right to request for supporting document(s). A non-refundable administration fee of S$54.50 w/GST ($50) is applicable for withdrawal request. If the withdrawal notice is given less than 2 weeks before the programme start date, the paid fees will not be refunded.

Corporate Run

For dedicated corporate runs with a contract signed with IAL, billing and payment will follow the terms of the signed contract. Otherwise, payment would be expected upon registration.

Chief Learning Curator | The Flame Centre

Dr Lee Kang Yam is a seasoned Adult Educator, learning strategist, and workplace learning consultant with over 28 years of experience across public service, private sector, and SME contexts. He is the Chief Learning Curator at The Flame Centre and has been actively involved with the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) as a Specialist Adult Educator (Curriculum Design), facilitator, assessor, and pathway advisor.
Dr Lee has designed and developed multiple nationally recognised programmes and modules for IAL, including the Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP), Diploma in Design and Development of Learning for Performance (DDDLP), and the Graduate Diploma in Workplace Learning (GDWPL). His work spans learning strategy, performance management, workplace learning, assessment design, mentoring, and organisational change.

He holds a Doctor of Education from NIE/NTU and an MBA (Strategy), and is a Registered Management Consultant, Certified Workplace Learning Specialist, and Mentor for NUS Uplift Programme and NTUC Mentoring Programme. Dr Lee brings a strong practitioner–academic perspective, combining rigorous thinking with practical application.
