What Is This Session About?

Game-Based Learning (GBL) is becoming increasingly relevant in the adult learning industry as organisations seek innovative and engaging ways to upskill and reskill their workforce. Traditional training methods often struggle to capture the attention and motivation of adult learners who operate in fast-paced, performance-driven environments. This programme addresses that challenge by equipping corporate L&D professionals, instructional designers, and talent developers with the tools and strategies to integrate GBL into workplace learning.

The programme is especially valuable in areas such as employee onboarding, leadership development, compliance training, and change management—domains where learner engagement, collaboration, and real-world application are critical. By incorporating elements like challenge, storytelling, feedback, and teamwork, GBL transforms passive learning into active, experiential learning. This aligns closely with adult learning principles, which emphasise relevance, self-direction, and practical application.

As the adult education landscape evolves with greater emphasis on learner-centred and outcomes-focused approaches, this programme supports the shift toward more engaging, performance-oriented learning design. It empowers professionals to prototype and adapt GBL solutions for different workplace contexts without requiring large budgets or complex technologies, making it highly practical and scalable.

Ultimately, this programme enables the adult training industry to deliver impactful learning experiences that not only build skills, but also strengthen motivation, collaboration, and organisational culture—key drivers of sustained workplace learning and transformation.

What Does The Session Cover?

This one-day experiential workshop is designed to equip corporate L&D professionals, instructional designers, and talent development leaders with the knowledge and practical skills to apply game-based learning (GBL) effectively in the workplace. Grounded in the science of motivation, engagement, and social learning, the course enables participants to understand and harness the power of games as learning tools. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore key GBL principles, such as challenge, feedback, storytelling, and collaboration, and learn how these can be applied to design engaging and impactful learning experiences.

Participants will gain the ability to design and prototype their own GBL solutions aligned to real workplace needs—ranging from onboarding and skills development to leadership and cultural change. By applying instructional design principles and behavioural science, they will create game-based learning experiences that are learner-centred, socially connected, and results-driven.

Learners apply these skills in their roles by integrating GBL strategies into learning programmes to enhance engagement, knowledge retention, and collaboration across teams. Whether designing microlearning modules or large-scale training interventions, participants will be empowered to reimagine learning as an active, motivating, and meaningful experience. The course ultimately supports the creation of scalable, cost-effective, and transformative learning solutions that align with organisational goals.
