What Is This Session About?
This metacognitive facilitation course is designed for adult educators seeking to enhance their practice by developing learners' metacognitive abilities, their capacity to think about and regulate their own thinking and learning processes. Metacognitive facilitation refers to the methods and strategies used by educators to help learners develop that awareness and control.
This course equips participants with practical, evidence-based techniques to facilitate metacognitive development in adult learners. Rather than simply teaching content, participants will learn how to guide learners to become conscious of how they learn, what strategies work best for them, and when to apply different approaches. In this course, participants will master metacognitive facilitation techniques that help learners develop the self-awareness and strategic thinking skills essential for lifelong learning.
What Does The Session Cover?
This course addresses the fundamental challenge facing Singapore's adult education sector. Despite significant investment in training, many adult learners struggle to transfer and apply knowledge in dynamic workplace environments. Recent studies from SkillsFuture Singapore reveal that while content knowledge acquisition remains high, application and adaptation of skills lags significantly. This metacognitive facilitation program provides the missing link by equipping educators with techniques that develop learners' internal monitoring and regulation processes, skills essential for navigating the rapidly changing professional landscape.
^ Assessment: Formative Assessment(s) (Assignments/Presentations/Practical Performances)
^ Completion: Upon 100% attendance and meeting Assessment requirement, learners will receive a Certificate of Participation from IAL (& other partners where applicable)
Who Is It Suitable For?
• Professional Adult Educators who want to move beyond basic thinking routines to develop more self-regulated learners
• Workplace Learning Facilitators facing challenges with knowledge transfer from training to application
• Curriculum Designers seeking to embed metacognitive facilitation elements into learning experiences
• Education and Training Managers looking to enhance the effectiveness of their learning programs through advanced facilitation approaches
