What Is This Session About?

This course introduces adult educators to the foundational concepts, processes, and learner-centred philosophy of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Through immersive, hands-on experiences, participants will explore how PBL fosters deeper engagement, critical thinking, and learner ownership, particularly within adult education settings. The course provides an entry point for understanding PBL’s core structure, facilitation and PBL process and how it differs from traditional teaching.

Participants will have an opportunity to assume the role of learners in a simulated PBL experience, reflect on its pedagogical value, and examine how PBL aligns with adult learning theories. This session is ideal for those curious about using PBL or seeking to adopt a more active, inquiry-based approach in their practice.

What Does The Session Cover?

This immersive one-day workshop offers adult educators foundational knowledge and an understanding of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and its unique effectiveness in adult education settings. Participants will experience PBL firsthand and gain insights into its theoretical foundations and practical applications.

They will have the opportunity to personally engage as PBL learners, gaining insights into the learner journey. As a result, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of PBL principles and their benefits for adult learning, along with a clear grasp of PBL processes and cycles.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • Trainers and educators facilitating courses in Continuing Education and Training (CET), IHLs, or private training providers
  • Instructional designers and curriculum developers exploring learner-centred and inquiry-based approaches
  • L&D practitioners in corporate or public sector settings seeking to integrate PBL elements into internal learning programmes
