What Is This Session About?

Generative AI is becoming an integral part of workplace learning, but effective use requires more than writing better prompts. Adult educators and workplace learning professionals must know when AI adds value, when careful verification is needed, and when professional judgement should take precedence.

This basic programme provides a practical foundation for using generative AI confidently, critically, and responsibly in adult education. Participants explore real learning-related use cases, apply structured prompting techniques, verify AI-generated outputs, and make informed decisions about privacy, attribution, disclosure, and ethical use. Through guided demonstrations, hands-on practice, case discussions, and an individual workplace-based assignment, learners build practical skills that can be applied immediately.

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to use AI more effectively while maintaining the quality, credibility, and professional standards expected in adult education and workplace learning.

Together with AI Creation Studio: Learning Resources, Media, and Workflow Prototypes, this basic programme forms the foundation of the IAL-AISG (ADAPT) series. Participants who complete both programmes will receive a joint IAL-AISG certificate.

What Does The Session Cover?

This basic programme introduces the foundations of responsible generative AI use for adult education and workplace learning. Participants explore the capabilities and limitations of current AI tools, identify appropriate learning-related use cases, and apply structured prompting techniques to improve AI-generated outputs. They learn to evaluate outputs for accuracy, reasoning, source credibility, and contextual fit using systematic verification approaches, while applying responsible-use principles covering privacy, attribution, disclosure, learner sensitivity, and human accountability.

Through demonstrations, guided practice, case analysis, peer discussion, and realistic workplace scenarios, participants develop practical AI skills that support learning design, facilitation, learner support, and professional communication. The programme concludes with an individual practical assignment where participants create, verify, and refine an AI-assisted work product that demonstrates responsible AI use in an authentic adult education context.

^ Assessment: Formative Assessment(s), Assignments/Presentations/Practical Performances)

^ Completion: Upon 100% attendance and meeting Assessment requirement, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion from IAL (and other partners where applicable)

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • Adult educators, trainers, and facilitators who want a responsible foundation for using GenAI in lesson preparation, learner support, facilitation planning, and professional communication.
  • Learning designers and instructional designers who need to use AI safely when developing learner-facing materials, activity briefs, formative questions, resource summaries, or training support documents.
  • L&D professionals, training coordinators, and programme teams who want clearer judgement on safe and effective AI use in course administration, learning support, and stakeholder communication.
  • Subject matter experts involved in developing learning materials, workplace learning resources, or training examples who need to use AI without weakening accuracy, context, or professional accountability.
  • Managers or team leads in learning functions who need to guide basic responsible-use practices for AI-enabled education and training work.
