What Is This Session About?

In today's fast-paced workplace, learners are expected to absorb and apply knowledge amidst competing demands and limited attention. For adult educators, learning and development professionals, instructional designers, and managers, creating learning experiences that are both engaging and effective can be a challenge.

This programme introduces participants to the principles and practice of microlearning design through a research-informed approach. Participants will explore the cognitive foundations of microlearning, examine evidence-based design principles, and understand how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can enhance accessibility and learner engagement.

Through guided discussions, hands-on design activities, and peer feedback, participants will apply these principles to develop a contextualised microlearning course using technology tools such as ThingLink or other preferred platforms.

By the end of the programme, participants will be equipped to design targeted, bite-sized learning experiences that address workplace learning needs, support knowledge retention, and contribute to improved learning and performance outcomes.

What Does The Session Cover?

Knowledge-based learning objectives: what participants will know at the end of the workshop (their understanding)
1. Identify the list of microlearning design principles in general.
2. Describe the implications of microlearning design principles for practice.

Skills-based learning objectives: what participants will be able to do at the end of the workshop (their application)
1. Use ThingLink or another preferred technology tool to design interactive media objects.
2. Apply microlearning design principles in the design of a contexualised microlearning course.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • Training and Adult Educators: L&D specialists, instructional designers, corporate trainers, curriculum developers, and talent management professionals responsible for creating and delivering engaging learning experiences, or professors, facilitators, and coaches working with adult learners in academic, professional, or community settings.
  • Team Leaders and Managers: Individuals tasked with onboarding, training, and upskilling their teams or those responsible for employee development and learning initiatives within organizations.
