Building the Next Phase of Growth
For more than 18 years, EBA Machinery Services Pte Ltd has supported companies in the construction and built environment sector with specialised machinery, servicing, automation and robotic solutions. Over time, the company built its reputation not just on the products it supplied, but on the depth of technical know-how behind its work.As customer needs became more complex, EBA saw an opportunity to move beyond equipment supply and servicing into higher-value advisory, training and technology-related services.
Beyond equipment distribution and repair, the company sought to expand into higher-value services, including consulting, training and the representation of new technologies from Europe and China. To support this next phase of growth, EBA recognised that it needed a way to capture knowledge, develop its people and build capabilities that could scale with the business.
The Challenge: Turning Expertise into Organisational Knowledge
Like many specialised SMEs, EBA’s know-how sat largely with its experienced people. This was a strength, but also a constraint. As the company expanded its product range and moved into more sophisticated solutions, it became harder to rely mainly on informal coaching, observation and on-the-job exposure. New employees needed a clearer way to learn the business, while sales staff needed practical tools to explain higher-value products with greater confidence.Without a systematic approach to learning and knowledge sharing, future growth would become increasingly dependent on a few key individuals.
"The model of doing business keeps evolving and I'm glad that this has contributed to the evolution of EBA."

Turning Workplace Learning into Business Capability
To support EBA's growth plans, the company partnered with the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) through the Learning Enterprise Alliance (LEA) programme. The engagement did not begin with a pre-designed training programme. Instead, it started by understanding EBA's business priorities, identifying where critical knowledge resided, examining how employees learned through their daily work, and determining the support sales and technical teams required as the company transitioned towards higher-value solutions.
Through interviews, workplace observations and reviews of existing processes, opportunities were identified to make knowledge sharing more deliberate, improve customer engagement and keep pace with business growth.
Working closely with EBA's management and employees, IAL supported the co-creation of practical workplace learning solutions aligned to business needs.
Technical servicing procedures were documented into Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to capture critical expertise and create greater consistency across operations. Structured sales processes and customer engagement guides were also developed to help employees better understand customer requirements and communicate the value of EBA's solutions more effectively.
Staff were trained on new product lines, including Ruwac Industrial Vacuum Systems and Elephant Robotics solutions. A Train-the-Trainer approach was introduced to build internal learning capability and support future knowledge transfer within the organisation.
The project was not simply about documenting processes. It was about transforming individual expertise into organisational knowledge that could be retained, shared and continuously improved.
Empowering Employees to Deliver Greater Value
As EBA strengthened its workplace learning practices, employees became better equipped to support the company's evolving business model. With clearer processes, stronger product knowledge and practical learning resources, staff gained greater confidence in engaging customers and recommending higher-value solutions.
For Sales Engineer JS Goh, the experience was both meaningful and empowering.
"I'm glad to be part of the change that the company is making to focus on high-value products. With the knowledge and skill, I feel more confident to engage more clients."

By equipping employees with the right skills, knowledge and tools, EBA was able to strengthen both workforce capability and customer engagement.
Delivering Measurable Business Outcomes
The workplace learning initiatives delivered tangible results for the organisation. All participating technical and sales personnel demonstrated the ability to develop and apply SOPs for servicing and maintenance activities while supporting value-added consulting services.
One practical improvement was seen in the quotation process. With clearer customer engagement and information-gathering practices, employees reduced unnecessary email exchanges and clarification cycles before quotations were prepared. This contributed to a 20% productivity improvement.
Customer engagement also improved by 20%, supported by clearer communication, better product knowledge and a more consultative sales approach.
More importantly, EBA established more reliable base for sustainable growth by creating systems that allow knowledge to be retained and transferred across the organisation.
Building for the Future
For EBA, this project marks the beginning of a longer transformation journey. The company plans to further strengthen its workplace learning ecosystem through structured onboarding practices, on-the-job training blueprints and digital learning resources to support future business expansion.
For Ella Chiew, AGM / Sales, one of the most valuable outcomes was the establishment of documented processes that can support workforce growth.

With stronger workplace learning practices in place, EBA is better positioned to scale its operations, develop new talent and support the growing demands of its customers.
Workplace Learning as a Business Enabler
EBA’s journey shows that workplace learning can go beyond training. When aligned with business priorities, it helps companies capture critical knowledge, strengthen employee confidence and improve the way work is done.Through the LEA programme, IAL works with enterprises to identify workplace challenges, co-create practical solutions and build capabilities that support real business outcomes.
For EBA Machinery Services, this has created a stronger foundation to onboard new talent, support higher-value solutions and respond more confidently to future opportunities.
